Melvin "Mel" Glen Parker, 82, of Stevensville, MT

Melvin "Mel" Glen Parker, 82, of Stevensville, MT passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, MT.

He was born January 8, 1931 in Oso, Washington to Glen and Bertha Parker. He grew up on a dairy farm in Oso, and attended Arlington schools, graduating as a Salutatorian. Shortly after high school, Mel enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed in Korea in 1950 and fought in the battle at the Chosen Reservoir as a tank gunner. Mel served from 1949 to 1953, but all his life he was first and foremost a Marine. On October 6, 1951 he married the love of his life, Noel Darce'. They were married for 62 years. He attended the University of Washington on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a teaching degree. He taught science and chemistry in the Snohomish School District from 1961 until 1983. In 1989, Mel and Noel moved to Stevensville. They became involved in the Missoula Farmers Market where Mel was Market Master for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Noel Parker; son, Daniel (Kris) Parker; daughters, Janet Colleen, Melissa (Mark) and Laurie; sister, Thelma Erickson; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Stevensville.

In lieu of flowers, please take the time to honor a veteran. That would make Mel very happy.

"Semper Fi Mel! You served your country well!"

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at: www.whitesittfuneralhome.com
