La Mesa California

As for successes, San Diego remains a tough town for getting people together to meet. Maybe just too much good weather, lots of distractions, and of course, "How about those Chargers?" Our primary effort has been the "Pizza Feeds" and we do ask for continued prayer that through this simple contact, the love of Jesus Christ is shared with wounded returnees and the permanent party staff. On the 12th, a fellow we had not met before asked "What's Point Man?" I was able to tell him that we are like the third leg of a 3 legged stool: the physical wounds are well cared for by the VA and military medical, the emotional wounds can be cared for reasonably well by the VA, but the SPIRITUAL wounds are left to fester by the military and VA. Point Man Ministries, I told him, brings the Christian message of God's unconditional love and healing to the wounds of the spirit caused by what we have seen and maybe have done in times of war. His response was relatively neutral, other than the "Wow, thanks for being here."

Thank you and AJ for all you do for the Point Man organization, and for the Kingdom of God! Your efforts have been a great blessing to me, and I am sure thousands of others, too.

Re: La Mesa California

The La Mesa Outpost of Point Man International Ministries (PMIM) is again
coordinating a "THANK YOU FOR SERVING" Pizza Feed at the Navy Medical Center
San Diego (aka Balboa Hospital). The intent is to bring in some civilian
chow (Costco pizza, salads, sodas and deserts) and show our appreciation to
the young men and women who are assigned to the Medical Hold Platoon
recovering from serious illness or injuries. Most are Marine Corp combat
casualties, and their Navy Corpsmen (or Corp-persons??? aka Medics to us old
Army guys).

* May 22, 2007 serving at 1700 hours (that's 5:00 PM), Building 26, Floor
1B [first basement], Liberty Center

DIRECTIONS: enter the hospital from Florida Street, SHOWING THE GATE GUARDS
A PHOTO ID. Proceed straight ahead through one Stop sign and turn LEFT at
the second Stop sign (you can't go any further because of the back of
Building 26, with signs like "Security" and "Parking Permits Office."
Proceed up the hill to the 3rd Stop sign and then turn RIGHT. Building 26
is now on your right and a parking structure is on your left. Turn LEFT
into the parking structure and park. Enter Building 26 at the doors next to
the Chinese take-out window and enter an elevator straight ahead in the
lobby. GO DOWN to Floor "1B" which is the first basement. Exit the
elevator and turn LEFT and proceed to the LIBERTY CENTER (which a BIG
recreation area).

We gather around 1645 hours (that's 4:45 PM) and try to be set up to serve
dinner by 1700 hours (5:00 PM.) Our goal is to express our thanks for their
service and sacrifice, encourage them, show our interest in their well
being, without being overbearing or "pushing" any religious connotations on
them. They are our guests, and Point Man is there as guests of the Armed
Services YMCA.

Pizza Feeds are made possible by thoughtful contributions and donations. So
far in 2007 this includes: J. Gunnar Schalin (USA Ret.), Rita & John
Folsom, Dick (CHP Ret.) & Donna Lane, Don & Barbi Halte, Frank (USMC) &
Virginia Pedersen, Dennis Kimbell (USMC Ret.), Bill (USAF) & Nancy Werber,
Don (USA) & Kathi Dodson and others.

Socks

Last summer I learned of a program to send anti-microbial socks to Iraq. It
is a credible program and is actually working. The attached description and
contact information is designed to be shared with like minded people who
look past the pro's and con's and management of the war. Millions of
Americans want to do something helpful for the young men and women who are
honoring their oath to protect and serve the United States. THEY don't get
a chance to debate strategy, make decisions based on popularity polls,
decide what to do based on costs in dollars and lives, etc. THEY salute and
"move out."

You may laugh at a program to send privately procured civilian
anti-microbial socks to Iraq. EVERYTHING our armed service members get is
low bid and minimally spec'd. If you have ever been in the same pair of
socks for days and days in HOT climate ... well, I'll let your olfactory
imagination take you the rest of the journey! The reports back also report
these are good wearing socks from a general comfort stand-point also. I
have met both CMDR (Chaplain) Newman and Celia Landis Winters and trust
their integrity. Both are active in the interdenominational Para-Chapel
Ministries at Camp Pendleton, and their contact information if you want to
"check them out" is attached.

As you can read, the minimum order is 5 dozen socks at $15 a dozen ($75.00)
sent directly to the sock maker. Some of us are blessed enough to be able
to send $75.00. However, think of how potent this would be if every group
of people like book clubs, youth groups, men's and women's fellowship
groups, Sabbath and Sunday school groups, veterans organizations, etc. made
this a project to send several hundred dozen socks to Iraq in time for the
"spring thaw" (ha, ha). We are going to try it at our church. Please
consider being the "squad leader" within your circle of influence and see
what happens. Thanks!

Navy Medical Center Dinner Schedules

Point Man Navy Medical Center Dinners

We have worked out a schedule through June 2008: the THIRD (3RD) TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH. Some of these will be catered barbecues, some pizza feeds and in late spring hopefully actual cook-outs at the ball field. My wife, Kathi, has been doing a superb job juggling the offers for food and logistics! We try to be set up so our guests can eat at 1700 hours
(that's
5:00 P.M.). There may be last minute changes in the location which I will forward with monthly reminders. So the schedule is as follows:

* FEBRUARY 19, 2008 in the Liberty Center, Building 26, Basement #B-1.
(courtesy of Richard Roy, Esq.)
* MARCH 18, 2008 in the Liberty Center, Building 26, Basement #B-1.
(Tri-Tips courtesy of Frank Pedersen)
* APRIL 15, 2008 location to be determined. (To be determined)
* MAY 20, 2008 location to be determined. (To be determined)
* JUNE 17, 1008 location to be determined. (To be determined)

The "THANK YOU FOR SERVING" dinners are to bring some civilian chow, salads, sodas and deserts to show our appreciation to the young men and women who are assigned to the Medical Hold Platoons, recovering from serious illness or injuries. Most are combat casualties from the Marine Corps, Navy and Army, with a few Coast Guard and U.S.A.F. now and then.

LIBERTY CENTER DIRECTIONS: enter the hospital from Florida Street, SHOWING THE GATE GUARDS A PHOTO ID. Proceed straight ahead through one Stop sign and turn LEFT at the second Stop sign (you can't go any further because of the back of Building 26, with signs like "Security" and "Parking Permits Office." Proceed up the hill to the 3rd Stop sign and then turn RIGHT LOOKING FOR THE PARKING GARAGE ENTRANCE ON YOUR LEFT. You are now across the street from Building 26 entrance, next to a Chinese take-out window. Enter an elevator, go down to basement B-1, exit the elevator and go to your LEFT (port bow:-) until you see the double glass doors for the LIBERTY CENTER.

We gather around 1645 hours (that's 4:45 PM) and try to be set up to serve dinner by 1700 hours (5:00 PM.) Our goal is to express our thanks for their service and sacrifice, encourage them, show our interest in their wellbeing, without being overbearing or "pushing" any religious connotations on them. We are a Christ-centered ministry, meaning that we serve all persons; reflecting God's agape-love through service and kindness. The attendees are our guests, and PMIM is there as guests of the Armed Services YMCA.

Re: La Mesa California

Point Man International Ministries (PMIM) La Mesa Outpost is again hosting a
series of "THANK YOU FOR SERVING" dinners at the Navy Medical Center - San
Diego, aka Balboa Hospital to us "old guys." We have worked out a schedule
through December 2008: the THIRD (3RD) TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH. August 19th
will be an actual cook-out barbecue at the ball field. Others will be
catered barbecues, some pizza feeds and still working on a Fiesta Night with
Mexican food. My wife, Kathi, has been doing a superb job juggling the
offers for food and logistics! We try to be set up so our guests can eat at
1700 hours (that's 5:00 P.M. civilian time). There may be last minute
changes in the location which I will forward with monthly reminders. So the
schedule is as follows:

* AUGUST 19, 2008 AT THE BALL FIELD GAZEBO - PICNIC AREA
* SEPTEMBER 16, 2008 to be determined
* OCTOBER 21, 2008 in the Liberty Center, Building 26, Basement B-1
* NOVEMBER 18, 2008 in the Liberty Center, Building 26, Basement B-1
* DECEMBER 16, 1008 in the Liberty Center, Building 26, Basement B-1

The "THANK YOU FOR SERVING" dinners are to bring some civilian chow, salads,
sodas and deserts to show our appreciation to the young men and women who
are assigned to the Medical Hold Platoons, recovering from serious illness
or injuries. Most are combat casualties from the Marine Corps, Army and
Navy, with a few Coast Guard and U.S.A.F. now and then.

DIRECTIONS TO THE BALL FIELD GAZEBO-PICNIC AREA: Enter the hospital from
Florida Street, north of "B" Street. YOU MUST SHOW THE GATE GUARD A PHOTO
ID. Tell her/him you are feeding wounded Marines at the Ball Field.
Proceed straight ahead through one Stop sign and turn LEFT at the second
Stop sign (you can't go any further because of the back of Building 26, with
signs like "Security" and "Parking Permits Office." Proceed up the hill to
the 3rd Stop sign and then turn LEFT at the "T" intersection. Follow the
perimeter road around and as you swing north, again, you will see the ball
field gazebo-picnic area on your right. Unload, and then look for parking.
(We can no longer park along the road at the ball field.) There is a small
parking lot just north of the ball fields near the gym. There is a very
large parking structure between the 1st and 2nd stop signs, which you can
use. I usually find a spot along the perimeter road by going around a 2nd
time and parking just south of the ball field along the fence.

COOKING TEAM GATHER AROUND 4:15 PM. We try to be set up to serve dinner by
1700 hours (5:00 PM.) Our goal is to express our thanks for their service
and sacrifice, encourage them, show our interest in their wellbeing, without
being overbearing or "pushing" any religious connotations on them. We are a
Christ-centered ministry, meaning that we serve all persons; reflecting
God's agape-love through service and kindness. The attendees are our
guests, and Point Man International Ministries is on Base as guests of the
Armed Services YMCA.

Pizza Feeds and barbecues are made possible by thoughtful contributions and
donations. Point Man Ministries, La Mesa is a 501(c)(3) not for profit

Re: La Mesa California

Dear Caring People:

Sorry for the several months without any e-mail reminders. My Windows 2000 computer died suddenly. I have tried to reconstruct your e-mail addresses from scraps. If you get this, please confirm so I can make sure to keep you updated. The food this month has been arranged for by Richard Roy, Esq., and my wife and Help Mate, Kathi. The theme is Americana with barbecued beef and chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, brownies and sodas. A live folk singing group, The Friendship Connection, is volunteering to sing. We set up so our guests can eat at 1700 hours (that's 5:00 P.M.).

We are still on the THIRD TUESDAYS each month, so here are the dates:

*** April 21, 2009 - Liberty Center
*** May 19, 2009 - to be determined (maybe Mexican)
*** June 16, 2009 - to be determined (if warm, maybe the ball field gazebo??)

The "THANK YOU FOR SERVING" dinners are to bring some civilian chow, salads, sodas and deserts to show our appreciation to the young men and women who are assigned to the Medical Hold Platoons, recovering from serious illness or injuries. Most are combat casualties from the Marine
Corps, Navy and Army, with a few Coast Guard and U.S.A.F. now and then.

across the street from the Building 26 entrance. Enter the lobby, take an elevator down to basement B-1, exit the elevator and go to your LEFT (port bow :-) until you see the double glass doors for the LIBERTY CENTER.

We gather around 1645 hours (that's 4:45 PM) and try to be set up to serve dinner by 1700 hours (5:00 PM.) Re: La Mesa California

Hello Point Man International Ministries (PMIM) Dinner Supporters:

We have RE-UPPED to continue our dinners at Navy Medical Center San Diego (aka "Balboa Hospital") through December 2009! We will continue on the 3rd Tuesdays of each month. This month's food has again been arranged for by Richard Roy, Esq., and my wife and Help Mate, Kathi. We're having Mexican food from Los Primos based on the favorable feedback we receive from our Guests and Staff. We set up so our guests can eat at 1700 hours (that's 5:00 P.M.).

We are still on the THIRD TUESDAYS each month, so here are the dates:

*** July 21, 2009
*** August 18, 2009
*** September 15, 2009
*** October 20, 2009
*** November 17, 2009
*** December 15, 2009

The "THANK YOU FOR SERVING" dinners are to bring some civilian chow, salads, sodas and deserts to show our appreciation to the young men and women who are assigned to the Medical Hold Platoons, recovering from serious illness or injuries. Most are combat casualties from the Marine Corps, Navy and Army, with a few Coast Guard and U.S.A.F. now and then.

LIBERTY CENTER DIRECTIONS: Enter the hospital from Florida Street. SHOW THE GATE GUARDS A PHOTO ID. Proceed straight ahead through one Stop sign and turn LEFT at the second Stop sign (you can't go any further west because of the back of Building 26, with signs like "Security" and "Parking Permits Office.") Proceed up the hill to the 3rd Stop sign and then turn RIGHT LOOKING FOR THE PARKING GARAGE ENTRANCE ON YOUR LEFT. You are now across the street from the Building 26 entrance. Enter the lobby, take an elevator down to basement B-1, exit the elevator and go to your LEFT (port bow :-) until you see the double glass doors for the LIBERTY CENTER.

We gather around 1645 hours (that's 4:45 PM) and try to be set up to serve dinner by 1700 hours (5:00 PM.) Our goal is to express our thanks for their service and sacrifice, encourage them, show our interest in their well being, without being overbearing or "pushing" any religious connotations on them. We are a Christ-centered ministry, meaning that we serve all persons; reflecting God's agape-love through service and kindness. The attendees are our guests, and PMIM is there as guests of the Armed Services YMCA. These dinners are made possible by thoughtful contributions and donations.

Point Man International Ministries (PMIM), La Mesa is a 501(c)(3) not for profit educational and religious organization.

IF YOU WANT TO BE REMOVED FROM THIS LIST, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

WELCOME HOME!

Re: La Mesa California

Dear Point Man International Ministries (PMIM) La Mesa Supporters:

First, I want to pass along the recognition and appreciation each of you indirectly received at the recent Armed Services YMCA Annual Board of Director's dinner. I was named the Armed Services YMCA Program Volunteer of the Year (2009). Part of this recognition is due to our work together providing the Point Man International Ministries (PMIM) dinners over the last five and 1/2 years. I will bring the plaque and copies of the citation letter to the February dinner. YOU have cared enough to make this a noticable program. I am just the Squad Leader who took the salute on your behalf. THANK YOU!

Next, here are the dates for the next PMIM dinners at Navy Medical Center San Diego (aka Balboa Hospital):

* Tuesday February 16, 2010
* Tuesday March 16, 2010
* Tuesday April 20, 2010
* Tuesday May 18, 2010
* Tuesday June 15, 2010

We set up in time to be ready to serve by 1700 hours (5:00 P.M.)

Base security seems to have evened out. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY THE INSTRUCTIONS, BELOW, to be able to enter Navy Medical Center San Diego (aka Balboa Hospital) under current security levels. If you have not provided me with your FULL NAME AND EITHER last 4 digits of SSAN OR the ENTIRE California Drivers License number, please send to me NO LATER THAN THE THURSDAY EVENING PRIOR TO DINNERS. ASYMCA's Erin Lester will list everyone on an annual roster to avoid us having to repeat the roster each month.

Last month 3 of us got through with showing our CDL's and saying "Feeding Wounded Warriers in Building 26." One of us was stopped, given a ration of [deleted for those non-military readers] but eventually let through. Allow enough time to humor an overzealous but well-meaning Guard trying to keep bad people from harming our service members.

Hope to see you at Building 26, Basement 1-B Liberty Center. Thank you for your caring!
