1stLt Brandon A. Barrett USMC, 27, Marion, IN (Afghanistan)

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

1st Lt. Brandon A. Barrett, 27, of Marion, Ind., died May 5 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Brandon Aaron Barrett, 27, died May 5, 2010, serving in Afghanistan.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marion High School Bill Green Athletic Arena in Marion, Ind. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Marion, Ind.
He was accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. He graduated in 2006, joined the Marine Corps, and was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant on May 26, 2008. He was recently posthumously promoted from the rank of first lieutenant to captain by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include mother, Cindy Barrett; father, Brett Barrett; sisters, Ashley and Taylor Barrett; and brother, Brock Barrett.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the athletic marina.
Donations may be made to STAR Wealth Management, Capt. Brandon A. Bar-rett Memorial Fund, 3610 River Crossing Parkway � Suite 190, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Local arrangements are by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel in Marion, Ind.
