Lawrence J. "Larry" Mondok, 72, Orlando, FL

Lawrence J. "Larry" Mondok, 72, passed away with family by his side, on Friday August 23 2013.

Larry was born in Duquesne PA, to Joseph Mondok and Ethel Fedor on September 1, 1940. Happy Birthday Dad! He moved with his mother and 2 siblings to Orlando in 1946, where they lived in the Orange Blossom trailer park.

Days were filled with swimming in Lake Holden, playing in orange groves and making adventures that still get told to this day. He graduating from Boone in 1959. Often he reminisced about living in the simple days of Orlando, pre Walt Disney, driving up and down Colonial Drive and 17-92, hanging out at the Steak and Shake and local drive-ins. Not long after high school, Larry started to work for the "new" Martin Company, first on the soldering line, then up to material testing and explosives.

As many did during this time, Larry joined the service, joining the Marine reserves in 1963. Also during this time, he married Connie Marie Rafferty, which gave him two sons. Although they remained married for only 13 years, they remained great lifelong friends to the end.

After 10 years at Martin, Larry worked for Law Engineering, which took him to Disney in its early days. His young sons were thrilled by having a dad who worked on the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain! Larry's jobs eventually took him all over the country, working for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Alabama and nuclear plants and structural steel projects from Utah to Connecticut and Chicago to New Orleans, and many points in between. Larry made many great friends "job shopping" all over the country, but often missed being back home in Orlando, especially reading his Sunday Sentinel. In 1985 he got lucky and came back home to work with Black and Veatch on OUC's Stanton plant. Larry loved to bowl, golf, play pool and a good game of poker with his buddies, but his favorite pastime was fishing. He would often tell about the times when his brother Ronnie and him would fish for dinner with their father Jack Poole long ago.

Larry retired in 2007, which gave him more time read his favorite newspaper from front to back daily, as well as time to fish, watch the wildlife and water levels on Lake Jessup and watch ESPN, hoping his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates and Orlando Magic would do well. He lived life to the fullest doing what he wanted, how he wanted, until the end. We are all thankful we got the chance to know and love Larry and he will be missed. We are blessed to have all his tales and stories, to have known his pranks and his humor, and because of this, his memory will live on for generations.

He was preceded in death by his mother Ethel and father Jack A. Poole.

He is survived by his sons Todd Mondok, of Geneva; Troy Mondok, of Astatula; his brother Ronnie Mondok of Easthampton Mass; sister Patricia (Mondok) Ball, of Orlando; and brother Jack A. Poole II, of Greenback, TN.

There will be festivities celebrating the life of Larry at some point in December when all family members will be here.

Anyone interested in attending, or for more information, contact Toddmondok1@aol.com
