here is a scripture I saw tattoed on a brothers arm this past Memorial Day weekend....it might pay to check it out.

Jonah 2:8

Those who regard worthless idols
Forsake their own mercy

The brother who shared this with me related that he was at the depth of despair and clinging to the past...when God spoke to him through this particular scripture and he sought help....and is here today because of it. His past and experiences had become his idols that he clung to because that is what he knew....once he released that past...healing began....in other words the tighter he hung on to the past, the less room there was for God to work in his life.

These are great words for Veterans to internalize! I had never really thought of it that way, but our pasts, where ever, what ever, can become an idol filling our days and nights with what was or could have been. I wonder if part of God's healing of PTSD isn't this very fact: that whatever we gling to that displaces God's fullness in our lives becomes an idol that we worship, rather than Him. Thanks for sharing!
