Are there any other medics around that are having "Fun With PTSD"
Thursday night I was having my "normal flashbacks" when all of a sudden I was seeing their "faces". I have always been able to avoid seeing "faces" all of my flashbacks had always been "faceless" patients. My VA psychologist says that is a "good sign."
Is he NUTS???
I have spent the last 30 years "enjoying" not seeing any identifiable marks on any of my patients. This was perfectly alright with me. These "faces" were the Viet-Nam POW's that I "learned my nursing skills" on. They came back to the states in the beginning of my 91C training. I had "stuffed" them, as well as many others, into my deep unconscious.
I don't want them coming back again!!!
I spent 30 years to keep them tucked away, if this is "actually a good sign" then by the year 2525 I should be cured, never more to wake up after my "normal" 1-2 hours sleep, in a cold sweat, never waking up doing CPR on my friend, never telling my neighbor "I'm sorry, your infant is gone", never seeing the seargeant down the street ..........!!! If you were a "Doc" you already know about this kind thing, the rest of can probably thank a "Doc" for saving your life, or even giving you a dose of penicillin for your visit to mama-san.
Sorry for the rant, I had to get it off my chest.
Rough for a first post, but we all had to make our first sometime.
