NEW BERN - Howard Mial Sr., 84, of New Bern died July 15, 2009, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Rivers-Morgan Funeral Home chapel in New Bern with the Rev. Jimmie L. Cooper officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, Ten-Twenty Associates, retired after 23 years in the U. S. Marine Corps and was one of the first black enlisted Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Mial Jr. of Bakersfield, Calif., and Darrell Mial of Washington, DC; two brothers, S. Walter Mial of Philadelphia, Pa., and Roosevelt Perry of Ewing, N. J.; and a sister, Ruth Watkins of Rockingham.
Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009, and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at the funeral home.
