Veta Marie Bruce, Of Waxahachie. Surrounded by her beloved family Veta transitioned from this world to her heavenly home on 7/22/09. Born 4/21/32 in Paris, TX to John & Dovie Bruce; attended schools in Waxahachie & Dallas; graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951; served her country in the US Marine Corps Reserve; retired from Howmet/Alumex in 1991. Veta loved to travel & host family members on trips utilizing her various time shares. She was an avid bowler & was active in many bowling organizations & leagues for more than 40 years, bowling in over 40 state & local tournaments & 39 national tournaments; served as a delegate to the WIBC for over 10 years; worked with the Young American Bowling Assoc. for over 30 years raising money for tournament trips & coaching; served on its Board of Directors; held the office of President of DWBA in 1990-91, Secretary from 1991-93; permanent WIBD membership; Hall of Fame 1990; DWBA Life Member in 1994; member of Texas State 600 Club; helped raise funds for National Bowling Veterans's Assoc; member of Texas State 500 Club, helping set up policies & procedures for an annual youth scholarship; awarded Member Emeritus in 2006; member of the Texas 20 Year Club; served terms as First & Second Vice President, worked on several committees. Preceded in death by parents; sisters Dorothy Bruce & Nancy Beck; brother John Bruce, Jr.; close friend Ruth Petersen. Survived by sisters Elizabeth Medlock of Waxahachie, Bess Dill of Claremore, OK, Ginger Robnett & husband Jim of Red Oak; 15 nieces & nephews; many great & great-great nieces & nephews; a host of friends; & her beloved pets Ginger & Trey. Visitation from 10 AM until 12 noon on Saturday (7/25) at Byrum Funeral Home in Lancaster with graveside services at 3 PM on Saturday in Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas.
