HAUGHTON, LA - Funeral service for Fred Collum will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Hill Crest Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be from 12:noon until service time Wednesday.

Mr. Collum, 90, entered into peaceful rest on Monday, July 13, 2009 in Bossier City, LA. He was born in Wheeler, MS, on October 20, 1918. Fred retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after twenty two years of service. He joined the Marines at the beginning of World War II, serving as a tail gunner. He later became a cinematographer with the Marines, and was part of the team to win an Academy Award for best documentary in 1963.

He went on to work on groundbreaking projects such as the Cine-Globe Process, which is the predecessor of present day IMAX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Willie Collum, and his sister, and brother.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Tommie Collum; daughters, Beverly Collum Paxon, Debra Collum Teague, and son Larry Collum and wife Kathy Giska. Also left to cherish his memory are four grandchildren, Kristen Hawkins, Shelby Shy, Eric Shy, and Cody Teague.

The family would like to thank our family at Pilgrim Manor in Bossier and Dr. Ted Warren for their loving care for so many years.
