Peoria - Roger A. Baxter, 52, of Peoria died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the home of his mother.
He suffered a stroke in February of 2006, which led to complications that eventually left him bedridden. Since that time he had been lovingly cared for by his mother and died peacefully in his sleep.
He was born Aug. 23, 1956, in Peoria, Ill., to Phillip C. and Shirley A. (Hinthorn) Baxter.
Roger is survived by his mother; a brother, James Baxter (niece Angie and nephew Jimmy); and three sisters, Cindy (Billy) Halstead (nephew Cody and niece Carly), Sherry (Nate) Miller (nieces Brianna and Ashlynn) and Crystal (Douglas) Staley (nephew Phillip), all of Peoria; two aunts; an uncle; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip, on Nov. 4, 1994; his cousin, Colleen Lentz, on Jan. 16, 2009; and his grandparents.
Roger worked at Great Plains Gas Co. for over 20 years and then at Ulrich Chemical Company.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserve and a board member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Peoria.
Roger was an avid NASCAR and Cardinals fan.
The family would like to thank Deb Langie for her care of Roger and always being available when needed, and to Pat and Alysha for their recent care.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 265.
