Michael B. Richarte ----- Michael was born on July 7, 1927, in Clovis, California and attended school in Clovis, until August 16, 1942. He went into the U.S. Marine Corps, and completed recruit training at Marine Corps recruit depot, in San Diego, class 828-B-42, followed by advanced flight training and carrier training for the F4U5 Corsair. He served in the South Pacific from January 1944, to July 1946 with various units including bomber squadron VMSB- 234-331, also pbj squadrons of B-25 bombers and ground units. He was assigned for five weeks with VMF217 black sheep squadron. He took part in the escort of the USS Missouri into the Japanese harbor for the signing of the Peace Declaration. By the end of the WWII he had completed 118 combat missions. Remained in Japan until July, 1946.

His personal decorations include the silver star, distinguished fling cross, bronze star with "V", two Purple Heart medals and several air medals. He had numerous campaign awards, WWII victory medal, Asiatic-Pacifc Campaign Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Marine Corps good conduct Medal and Marine Corps Reserve Ribbon.

Michael enrolled in MCI courses at Fresno State college, Fresno California, and received a degree in agriculture administration and marketing from Texas A&M in Bryan, Texas.

He was recalled to duty in August, 1950 as company commander for 1st Marines, 4th recon battalion and made the landing at Inchon where he went onto China's border, was caught at the chosen reservoir, was wonded in 1952 and was sent to Yokuska navel hospital for recovery.

He was called again to active duty in 1966 and sent to OV reconnaissance aircraft training at New River and was released November, 1969. Michael remained in active reserve until July 7, 1986 with nearly 44 years of service.

In civilian life he was a cotton merchant buying and selling cotton worldwide.

He is survived by Mercedes Richarte, his wife of 48 years; and son, Mark Richarte; along with a sister, Kay Deleon; and brother, John Richarte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, three sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be held at Clovis Funeral Chapel, 1302 Clovis Ave, on Thursday, June 3, 2009, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held at Clovis Funeral Chapel, on Friday, June 4, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Military Graveside Service at Red Banks Cemetery
