The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene for George William “Doc” Teller of Eugene, who died June 5 of age-related causes. He was 92. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time Monday at the church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Eugene.
He was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Lincoln, Neb., to William and Mabel McCoy Teller. He and his wife, Eleanor Ann, were married Jan. 8, 1945, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Teller received a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College in 1941 and a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Colorado Medical School. He served as a captain in the Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945 in World War II in the South Pacific. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a lieutenant colonel.
He worked as a medical doctor at Eugene Hospital & Clinic from 1951 to 1988 and was the South Eugene High School’s football team physician for 39 years. He also served as admitting physician at Serenity Lane Treatment Center.
Survivors are his wife; five children, Suzette Malkasian Baird of Eugene, Kevin Teller of Portland, John Teller of Bend, Bernadette Teller Warwick of Dexter and Robert Teller of Charlotte, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Georgianne Teller Singer, died previously.
