WILLIAM N. "BILL" CARD JR., 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Parkview Hospital. Born in Albany, N.Y., he was an Eagle Scout in his youth and Assistant Scout Master, in Utica N.Y., where he was raised. He was a sergeant with the U.S Marine Corps during World War II Pacific Theater, assisting with the removal of POW's from Nagasaki. He graduated from The Phoenix School of Design in New York City where he met Isabelle, his bride of 58 years. Later moving to Syracuse, N.Y. he co -founded the photograph retouching studio of Wilson & Card, Inc.. He was a charter member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. After retirement in 1985, he moved to Ft. Myers, Fla. and recently to Fort Wayne. He was a devout Catholic with a special dedication to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Both he and his wife were prayer "warriors" wherever they resided. He was an avid fisherman enjoying life with family and friends. "Always one with nature, he was loved and admired for his wonderful humor and kind spirit." Surviving are his daughters, Elizabeth (James) Oberley of Grabill and Martha (Mark) Lavender of New Canaan, Conn.; three loving grandchildren, Lacey Oberley, Douglas Lavender and Daniel Lavender; sisters, Florence Card of Balwinsville, N.Y. and Alice Heffron of Fayetteville, N.Y.; and brothers, Richard Card of Adams, N.Y. and Edward Card of Sherill, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Martha Card; wife, Isabelle; sister, Mary Burkhart; and infant daughter, Anne Marie. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 6, 2009, in Syracuse, N.Y. Memorials may be made locally to Our Lady of Good Hope Church. Local arrangements by Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home.
