LAKE WALES - Mr. Robert M. Keeley, Sr. 72, of Lake Wales, Florida, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at his home, of cancer.
Bob was born September 8, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA at the Hospital of the Protestant Episcopal Church. He attended West Catholic High School in Philadelphia.
Bob served the United States Marine Corps for 22 years. He enlisted as a private in 1953 and completed of Basic Training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Bob was assigned to Camp Lejeune, NC where he was trained in information technology. He served at the Marine Corps Supply Activity in Philadelphia and received further training at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indiana before reporting to Okinawa, Japan in 1963. He was commissioned as a Warrant Officer and attended the Basic School in Quantico in 1964. Bob was transferred to Norfolk, VA and later to Quantico, VA where he founded the U.S. Marine Corp's Computer Sciences School. In 1969, he was deployed to Da Nang, Viet Nam where he coordinated system and supply activities, returning in summer of 1970. He was once again transferred to the Marine Corps Supply Activity in Philadelphia where he completed service and retired at the rank of Major in June 1975. After retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps, Bob worked as an assistant vice-president for Reliance Insurance Company in network communications in Philadelphia and retired in 1997.
His parents Francis and Christine Seitz Keeley, as well as a daughter, Karyn, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanne, and sons: Robert (Yvonne) of Crossville, TN; Michael (Shelley) of Dothan, AL and Brian (Maria) of Atco, NJ; as well as 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Haines City. There will be a full honors military service held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
