Edward Henry Smith, 80, of Platte City, MO, passed away May 29, 2009 from a short battle with lung cancer. Ed was born in Windham, NH, on October 16, 1928. He retired from the USMC after 20 years of service. He was a Korean War veteran. He was fortunate to be a guest of the Korean government to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the winning of the Korean War in September, 2008. He was a member of the local Korean War Veteran's Association. Since retirement from the Marines, he had numerous careers. He was with the US Postal Service and a forest ranger; until he found his love for direct sale of gift supplies to small stores in the midwest. Ed loved to travel and had a passion for genealogy. He will be greatly missed by all family members and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, George E and Mable L (Woodman) Smith; his daughter, Dyann Todd and brother, Walter Smith. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol A. Smith; 3 step-children and their spouses and 13 step-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Cancer Research. Funeral service is 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Mount Moriah Terrace Park; with visitation from 12:00 Noon until service time at the funeral home.
