HOLLY RIDGE - Master Sgt. James "Jim" Branson (Ret.), 68, of Holly Ridge, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Branson served 22 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as master sergeant and is a Vietnam veteran. He also managed Lanier's Restaurant in Surf City for more than seven years and managed Betty's Smoke House Restaurant in Holly Ridge for more than 12 years.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Folkstone Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. Ronnie Parker and Mitchell Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Turkey Creek Cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Branson of Holly Ridge; daughter, Roslyn B. Parker and husband Butch of Sneads Ferry; son, James "Jimbo" Branson and wife Tammy of Shallotte; granddaughter, Emily Parker; and grandson Christopher Branson; two brothers, Von Branson of Forsyth, Ga., and Corbett "Sonny" Branson of Lake Placid, Fla.; three sisters, Joyce Trimnal of Dayton Beach, Fla., Billie Rae Brim of Port Orange, Fla., and Patsy Christman of St. Petersburg, Fla.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Corbett and Inez Branson, and also a sister, Jerry Boyer.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home of Holly Ridge.
