HAMPTON, Ga. - Jonathan Glenn Stevens of the 800 block of Walden Landing Drive was born Aug. 23, 1965, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell Thomas Stevens Sr. and departed this life May 22, 2009. He was a native of Norfolk. Jonathan attended the Norfolk public school system and graduated from Maury High School in June 1984. While in high school, Jonathan was on the wrestling team, varsity football team and the cross country track team. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served for 13 years. While in the military, he served as an engineer equipment operator and recruiter. He also served in Operation Desert Storm. Jonathan was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1998. Jonathan became employed with the Clayton County Sheriff's Department where he served for 11 years prior to departing this life. While employed with the sheriff's department, he held the positions of corrections officer, mandate officer, field training officer and evidence custodial officer. Jonathan leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Courtney Deshawn Brown of Norfolk and Patience Jonevia Stevens of Hampton, Ga.; a grandson, Jahmir Lynn Brown of Norfolk; four brothers, Russell Wayne Stevens of Hampton, Ga., Eric Douglas Stevens (Talitha) of Jonesboro, Ga., Russell Thomas Stevens Jr. (Holley) and Paul Nelson Stevens of Norfolk; five sisters, Colleen Elizabeth Speaight (Arthur), Tammer Marrie Williams (Willie), Rosamae Olivia Rowe of Norfolk, Cynthia Belvedere Stevens and Jeannetta Ovelia Stevens of Kinston, N.C.; two longtime best friends, Grant Kidd and Candy Griffin; a godson, Jonathan Kidd; 32 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. The viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Riddick Funeral Service, Norfolk. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon in the funeral home with Elder Kevin M. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
