William M. "Bill" Weathersby, Jr., 84, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at his residence.
Visitation will be 2:30-5:30 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009, at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Boulevard followed by a memorial service at 11 :00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
Mr. Weathersby was born August 7, 1924 at Corinth, the son of William M. Weathersby and Golden Newman Weathersby. After 1926, the family resided in Jackson, where William was educated in the Jackson Public Schools, graduating from Central High School with the Class of 1942. He attended Millsaps College from 1942-1943, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. On August 27, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the First Marine Division on Cape Gloucester -and Peleliu. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Millsaps, where he received his B.S. degree in 1949. He was employed at the U. S. Post Office until he was recalled to active duty with the Marine Corps, serving until October 1951. Mr. Weathersby and his father owned and operated a local grocery until his father's death, and Bill formed his business, Weathersby Radio & Television Repairs, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson at the time of his death, and had for many years been an active member of Wynndale Presbyterian Church in Terry, serving as Deacon, Elder and Elder Emeritus.
Mr. Weathersby is survived by his wife, Dorothy McCharen Weathersby; a daughter, Dorothy Lynne W. Schabowsky and husband, Thomas of Indialantic, Florida; his sons, William Marc Weathersby of Terry and Thomas Lawrence (Larry) Weathersby and his wife, Leann of Brandon; and two grandsons, Matthew Thomas Schabowsky of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Jonathan Mark Schabowsky and his wife, Amanda, of Melbourne, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Elizabeth Weathersby.
