Victor Eugene "Gene" Patrick was born March 8, 1931, in Winder, Ga., and died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. He was a career U.S. Marine Corps officer from June 1, 1951, until his retirement on June 30, 1974, as a lieutenant colonel. Upon retirement he worked for the Louisiana Office of Risk Management until his retirement on Sept. 25, 1995. He was a graduate of Emory University with advanced degrees from George Washington University and American University. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet R. Patrick; son, Randy Patrick and daughter-in-law, Peggy Patrick; son, Jeff Patrick and daughter-in-law Kathi Patrick; daughter, Margi Underwood and son-in-law, Ralph Underwood; and four granddaughters, Rebecca Patrick, Charlotte Patrick, Lauren Underwood and Jackie Underwood. Gene's wish was to have his body donated to the LSU Medical School. Visitation at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. with the service immediately following at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Services of Baton Rouge or St. James Place Foundation.
