Jett Thomas Ford Jr. --- December 9, 1928 - January 7, 2009 Tom Ford, Overland Park, Kan., died Thursday, January 8, 2009. As a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, an Honorary Military burial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association. Tom served as Regional Director, Boy Scouts of America from January 1977 to July 1992. Prior to this service, he served in Tupelo, Miss., Shreveport, La., Jonesboro, Ark., Birmingham, Ala., and Minneapolis, Minn. His service as Regional Director included a 10 state area of the upper Midwest. Tom was most happy regarding his service as a Reservist in the US Marines. He served in various billets during his tenure and was most proud of his service as Battalion Commander, 14th Marines in Birmingham. For his service to his country during the Korean War, he was awarded the Silver Star medal and the Letter of Commendation Medal with Combat V. Tom was a member of the Sunflower Chapter of the Retired Officers Association of America. He also was an active member of Brookridge Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors and was Club President in 1990. Tom's family was uppermost in his mind. His wife, Betty, daughter, Connie, son- in-law, Roger and his two grandchildren, Roxanne and Tom Scott, will forever fill a great chasm in the life hereafter.
