George Zellick of Lewistown, Mont., formerly of the Lane County area, died Dec. 26 of pancreatic cancer. He was 88. A memorial service will be later.
He was born June 3, 1920, in Lewistown to Sam and Mary Pipinich Zellick. He married Dorothy Shaw on June 27, 1944, in Portland. She died in July 2005.
Zellick served in the Marines in World War II in the Pacific and China and later in the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of Oregon State University, received a master's degree in education administration from the University of Oregon and taught at Springfield High School from 1949 to 1959. He became the first principal of Thurston High School in 1960 and later was deputy superintendent of the Springfield School District.
Survivors include his life partner, Barbara Lu Smith; three sons, George of Portland, Daniel of Redding, Calif., and James of Lewistown; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
